Gold Coast loneliness.
I dreamt I was standing in the immense lobby of a resort on the Gold Coast. It was an incredible room of modern design; very sleek with glass stairs and a lot of bright colours. The light of the setting sun poured in through the two storey glass panels that made up the walls, which gave the room a very warm atmosphere. Outside I could see the beach was right next to the resort.
I was on a school camp and my friends and I decided to explore the resort. We were going up and down in the elevators, looking at the different floors and getting lost, as you do in dreams that don’t really make a lot of sense.
After we found our room we decided to cause some mischief and my friend, Lynnette, managed to steal one of the cleaners ID cards; the kind they use to operate the workers elevators. We were playing in those elevators for a while before we arrived at the lobby again. I wandered off, admiring the lobby, and when I turned around, I realised my friends had jumped back in the elevator. I ran after them but the doors closed just before I got there.
I stood there pushing the elevator button, feeling alone and not wanting to be separated from my friends, when the doors opened and there stood a group of cleaners eyeing me suspiciously. I exclaimed that I was lost before walking back towards the lobby, where I came across a teacher from my high school and a few students from my primary school. The teacher asked me what I was doing and I replied with, “Nothing… Emma, Nicki, Lynnette and I just got lost,” before I walked away, worried about my friends.
Then I woke up.
Big day out infection.
I currently have some sort of sinus infection or throat infection or something and I’ve taken some sinus relief tablets that could possibly make me drowsy, so I don’t know how much sense I’m going to make.
Last Thursday Emma, Alex, Gavin and I went down to the Gold Coast to stay in a 5 star resort for 4 nights. Leigh also joined us for Friday and Saturday nights. It was just what I needed; friends, beach, dancing, sunshine, games, delicious food (cooked by yours truly + Emma) and relaxation. To top it all off, the resort was actually on ‘Hope Island’ – haha. This amuses me because my nightmares and insomnia stopped while I was away and they haven’t yet returned.
On Sunday Lynnette caught a train from Brisbane to join Gavin, Emma and I in attending one of the biggest music festivals of the year; Big Day Out, along with 54,996 other people (seriously – 55,000 tickets were completely sold out). I saw Muse, Powderfinger, Lily Allen, Eskimo Joe, The Mars Volta, Dizzee Rascal, Karnivool, Kasabian, Mastodon and Blue Juice. I could only describe Muse as fan-fricking-tastic. I have been to see a few bands and I think it’s safe to say Muse put on the best performance I have ever seen.
Unfortunately I didn’t get to see Rise Against, Jet, Grinspoon, Fear Factory, Peaches or Girl Talk because they clashed with other bands but I’m still really satisfied with how my day played out. The only downside is that I now have this sinus infection and my back is badly sunburnt.
I have found it rather difficult to return to Brisbane. It feels as though I’m returning to a harsh reality where I’m struggling financially and a lot of things aren’t working out for me, like work, university and retrieving my original mobile phone number. Sigh…
It’s also the last week I get to spend with the beautiful Emma before she returns to her home in New Zealand. As I’ve probably said before, she’s the only person who understands my strange sense of humour, as well as the only person I feel I can be 100% myself around…
I’m starting to not make sense, aren’t I?
It’s definitely time for bed. I hope this damn sinus infection heals quickly.
I am also speed capped.

City bug perverts.
Last night was fantastic. I ended up going into the city with Alex and Lynnette to meet up with some of Alex’s friends, all of whom turned out to be fantastic people. They’re all going to Big Day Out so it’s going to be an awesome trip to the Gold Coast.
So anyway, we’re sitting at a table in a bar, having a few drinks and a few laughs when this old guy sitting behind us (maybe about 50 years old?) decides to join us. We all recognised his intentions immediately as he actually tried to move between Lynnette and I, and we were already sitting quite close together. We were the only 19 year old girls at the table. He put his arm between us and turned to stare at me with glazed eyes. “Mind if I join you guys? My mates over there won’t drink with me.” We turned to see a group of perverted, old men smirking at the table behind us. Thank goodness the gentlemen on either side of Lynnette and I offered to swap seats to get us away from this creep, and they dealt with him from there.
From there on our night was fairly uneventful. Lynnette and I got up to dance with Alex’s friends a few times, had an incredible time. We felt like total fools and loved every minute of it. Gavin coincidentally was in the city the same night and left the group he was with to join mine, which was really lovely. He was there to witness Lynnette and I skull a delicious cocktail each (Midori Splice), before getting a brain freeze and realising how expensive it was. Haha. We also got photos of us in Krispy Kreme hats, oh it was so funny sitting in a bar wearing it. We took photos, I’ll upload them when I get them and if I remember to.
I had another guy approach me on the dance floor but I sort of gave him the cold shoulder. I feel bad, but I had had enough of perverted guys for one evening and I didn’t want to take the risk of him being another one. He may have been perfectly nice, he looked nice but I just wanted to chill out. In hindsight I probably should have acknowledged him, just for the hell of it. Why not? Next time!
Yep, I’ve become a city bug!
Today was fairly casual. Gavin, Nicki and Eevari came around to hang out for a while. We watched Card Captors and played some Nintendo 64 and Team Fortress 2. Eevari stole 3 of my Team Fortress 2 achievements, damnit!
Oh, by the way, I got some photos of Gavin and I from our little trip into the city for the chocolate buffet. Enjoy.
